Camy’s Keepers is a monthly, unbiased spotlight for products or services I use and love...that are keepers. I have no affiliation with or sponsorship from anything I showcase.
I started conceptualizing Ageosophy about 6 years ago, and all that time I’ve known what the first Camy’s Keepers was going to be. Something I have used multiple times a day for the last 16 years, singing their praises to anyone who will listen. E-Cloths. I love these colorful wonder microfiber cloths so much, I could wax on about them until you begged me to stop. Why so enamored of a cleaning cloth? I’m glad you asked!
When our son, Alessio, was born, I vowed to eliminate harmful chemicals in the house. Not only because of the obvious risk of accidental poisoning but also because of the havoc they wreak on the body's endocrine system, which is responsible for most of our critical functions. As designers, my husband and I were loath to put unsightly and ill-conceived child locks onto our cupboards, so we simply decided to eliminate anything dangerous for him to get into. No toxic ingredients, no need for locks.
This left us with the question of how we were going to clean. Answer: E-Cloths and water (with the occasional white vinegar for super greasy messes). I use these precision-engineered, versatile cloths for all kitchen (I never use sponges), bathroom, surface, floor, and glass cleaning.
Aside from the ingenious idea of simply cleaning with water, what impressed me most when I was researching new cleaning methods and products is the science behind the textile. Although I personally know people who are convinced that the only way to disinfect their counters is to drench them in bleach wipes, in independent laboratory tests, E-Cloths and water remove over 99% of mold and bacteria, locking them into the cloth’s fibers until they are rinsed away. Ah-Mazing!
Once I started using them, I was truly astounded by the cloth’s efficacy: the kitchen counters were spotless, the stove top wiped squeaky clean, and the stainless hood was streak free. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve thrown each cloth in the delicate cycle and hung dry…I may have used a few past the 100-use promise, but they still go strong. No wasteful plastic containers. No harmful chemicals. Superior results. I’ve been hooked for nearly two decades.
From a design perspective, the company has done a stellar job with its brand positioning, promise, and image. The website is clean (subliminally supporting the brand promise), well-organized, and engaging. The experience continues when you receive the product from the site. The packaging extends the visual style with fun patterns inside the package and on-point insert cards. Not least are the beautiful cloths, subtly blind imprinted with their logo, and offered in fun colors to differentiate usage. It all adds up to a great user experience.
When the veritable toxic soup in our world starts to feel overwhelming, cleaning the home with pure water and these cheerful cloths can provide a reassuring sense of simplicity and control. Check out their website and see for yourself. By the way, I just recently came across them at Ace Hardware, so they could be right around the corner and become “keepers” in your home, too.
